Inspect the figures behind the charts

Electricity generation and total final energy consumption are different denominators. The final-energy measure includes direct renewable use plus electricity consumption allocated to renewables. Historical values follow MBIE's published indicator series; 2023 and 2024 endpoints use the latest Energy in New Zealand 2025 release and may be revised. The 2026 report is available, but this historical comparison retains the 2025 vintage pending reconciliation of differing final-energy renewable shares in the new overview and renewables chapters.

Annual report vintage. These figures may revise earlier quarterly estimates and are not spliced into the quarterly chart. Renewable share refers to electricity generation, not total final energy consumption.

Generation groups follow MBIE's quarterly electricity tables. Other renewables combines biogas, wood, and waste heat; non-renewables combines oil, coal, and gas. Quarterly values retain the 11 June 2026 release vintage; the separate annual 2025 indicators use Energy in New Zealand 2026 and may incorporate revisions.

Prices are nominal New Zealand dollars per megawatt-hour and are weighted by electricity demand.

Announced pipeline capacity is not yet operating. Projects can be delayed, changed, or cancelled.

The series combines battery-electric and plug-in-hybrid light vehicles. It remains separate from the differently classified current NZTA snapshot.

Passenger means the NZTA Passenger Car/Van vehicle type. Light commercial means Goods Van/Truck/Utility with gross vehicle mass up to 3,500 kg or class NA. Electrified combines electric, range-extended electric, fuel-cell electric, and plug-in-hybrid motive types.

The database focuses on sites with fossil-fuelled primary heat equipment above 500 kW. Underlying site observations span multiple survey years, mainly 2021-2023.

Project counts and capacity are delivery-pipeline figures, not commissioned generation.

The broad pipeline is distinct from committed or under-construction projects; not all proposed capacity will proceed.

Megawatts measure discharge power; megawatt-hours measure stored energy. Status categories must not be added as though all capacity is operating.

Used to explain why some renewable output is not used when supply exceeds demand or network and storage limits bind.

Referral into the fast-track process is not approval or a final investment decision.

The initiative offered co-funding for demonstrations; it is not deployed national capacity.

This is research funding, not a commercial storage project.

Programme targets and funding are not installed capacity. The first 80 to 100 schools are targeted for the 2026–27 summer rollout.

This is a demonstration funding programme, not an inventory of operating truck-charging hubs.

Trials test technical and user behaviour in New Zealand conditions. They are not evidence of widespread compatible vehicles or commercial deployment.

The map is a collective vision and work programme, not a commitment that every listed action will be delivered.

The regime remains subject to the Offshore Renewable Energy Bill becoming law. Regulatory groundwork is not a consented generation project.

The completed funding round does not show how many projects will reach commissioning or their aggregate capacity.

The programme is exploratory. No commercial resource, capacity or generation date has yet been established.

This is research infrastructure for an experimental fusion approach, not a power station or forecast electricity supply.
